The recent Kay Fire northeast of Carefree, which began Monday afternoon and burned approximately 42 acres, was reported 100% contained by Tuesday afternoon. Thanks to the quick response of volunteer firefighters, Tonto National Forest fire crews, and support from aerial resources, including three helicopters, one slurry tanker and one Single Engine Air Tanker, suppression efforts were successful.
This close-to-home fire is an important reminder of the role we all play in protecting our community. During this time of year, fire danger remains high and fire restrictions are in place. The Carefree Fire Department is an active resource for residents and neighborhoods interested in becoming more fire-aware and fire-prepared.
