Measles

Measles is highly contagiousThe Town of Carefree is sharing important information from the Maricopa County Department of Public Health regarding measles awareness and prevention.

Measles is highly contagious, meaning even a few cases can spread quickly within a community. Public health officials are working closely with local partners to investigate suspected cases and notify individuals who may have been exposed so they can monitor symptoms and help prevent further spread.

If a public exposure is identified, Maricopa County may issue exposure notifications that include the location, dates, and times of possible exposure, along with guidance on symptom monitoring. It’s important to know these notices reflect specific exposure windows only — they do not mean there is an ongoing risk at that location.

Vaccination remains the best protection against measles and is widely available through healthcare providers, pharmacies, community health centers, and MCDPH clinics. Residents can also check their immunization history online through Arizona’s myIR system.
