Experience the magic of the season in Carefree on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 5 p.m., as the Carefree Desert Gardens transform into a sparkling wonderland. Join your neighbors and friends around the 20-foot Christmas tree next to the Veterans Memorial for an evening of festive cheer, music, and community spirit—just like the holiday scenes in your favorite small-town movies.
The evening begins with Joyful Sounds, a local choir, performing beloved holiday carols perfect for singing along. Mayor John Crane will share holiday greetings and lead the countdown to light the tree at 5:20 p.m., a cherished tradition that brings the community together and fills Carefree with holiday magic year after year.
After the tree lighting, take a short stroll over to the Sanderson Lincoln Pavilion to continue the celebration. Enjoy a string performance by the Jubilate Conservatory of Music, sip on free hot chocolate with all the fixings, and be enchanted by the Desert Hills Presbyterian Church Handbells and Youth Saxophone Quartet as they fill the pavilion with festive music.
The Christmas Concert, running from 6 - 7 p.m., features local talent including singers organized by Kevin Glenn, the Desert Cactus Kickers dance troupe, and the POP (Performing Outreach Project) dance group led by Kenda Newbury. With lively dances and beautifully performed holiday songs, the evening captures the warmth, joy, and togetherness of a true small-town holiday celebration—perfect for families, friends, and anyone wanting to make lasting holiday memories. Make a night of it—book a table at one of Carefree’s local restaurants and enjoy dinner just a short, charming stroll from the Sanderson Lincoln Pavilion.
